Anishinaabee/Ojibwe people consider the moon as a cherished relative.
Grandmother moon now lives in the sky world as a nurturing energy, watching over Anishinaabeg by providing light in the darkest nights. Without the moon, Earth would not be habitable for plant-life, animals or human beings.
The moons correspond to the seasonal changes happening to the land; thus, Indigenous communities in different parts of the country will have different moons.
Each moon is important because it signifies the time of year that certain legends, songs, ceremonies, and activities take place.
